I’m a Cosplayer
I accidentally became a cosplayer in 2014, when I went to my first convention. I dressed up, because I heard that not only was it allowed, it was celebrated! Once I got there, I was hooked, and it became a major hobby and a source of many dear friends, once I started meeting others who appreciated this quirky art form.
Cosplay is a unique amalgamation of so many fine art, fashion, and design techniques that it was a fusion very likely to attract me, and well suited to my skills. I consider myself a “Cosplay Engineer” because I love to work on things that are big enough that they need, well, engineering, to be possible.
I regularly work with other cosplayers and cosplay photographers to give panels, and have been honoured to have Lucy Luxe, Lexa Lefay Cosplay, Nomnomnat, Lexa One, and others join me on panels at conventions.
I have been competing in Masquerades (Costume contests) at conventions since 2014, and climbed the ranks until I was a Master Cosplayer in 2016. In 2018 I decided to reduce the number of competitions I entered. A Master-level cosplay takes almost a year for me to build, so I want to choose carefully which pieces I devote that much time to, and which ones I make for fun.
I have also been spending time teaching, judging, and giving panels, as sharing my knowledge to help other cosplayers make the best cosplays they can is very important to me!
