Painting & Illustration

Artist statement

I work at the intersection between art and design. In particular, my practice manipulates the line between fashion, costume, wearable sculpture, industrial design, and graphic design. I think of my diverse interests as addressing a need for communication and expression, while also solving practical problems of how art can be integrated into everyday life. The natural shapes formed by animals and plants are repeating themes across these materialities. I like to defy conventions, and regularly challenge myself to incorporate new techniques and skills in order to do so. Performance art and the documentation process has also formed an important narrative.

An art education

Although I have diplomas in graphic and fashion design, I have continued to a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Ottawa (2024).

My journey in the art world was self-directed for most of my life, except for brief periods with tutors, mentors, and formal classes. I am constantly learning and seeking to improve my technical skills. This art education has better formed my understanding of the worlds in which art acts on culture and succeeds in changing hearts and minds.

A queer advocate

I will always make space for folks in the queer community. I’m happily married to fellow artist, LAKE, and you can see his art here: lakedoesart.com
